CRBW Teaching Philosophy

So many times, I have heard people say that it’s too late to learn, too late to come back, too late to achieve that higher level of ballet technique they’ve always aspired to….which is simply NOT TRUE. Ballet technique should be viewed as a PRACTICE, like Yoga. It is a place where you can create beauty and strength regardless of age, gender, race or even health.

Like a student, a teacher must always be improving, learning and striving to be better. I continue to take class to this day, so I can do the same. Over the course of my career, I have become well versed in many schools of ballet; Cecchetti, Bournonville, Balanchine, and Royal Academy of Dance, but base much of my teaching success on Vagonova technique. Vaganova holds the tools necessary to execute steps in a clean, safe and controlled way, without losing the beauty of each movement.

I believe that a great teacher/coach should ALWAYS motivate their students. This is achieved with individual attention, positive reinforcement, and communicating complicated technique, SIMPLY. The classroom should be a fun and exciting environment, yet still have structure. I strive to instill athletic discipline, artistic vision, musicality, and love of ballet. These are the virtues of ballet that students will carry with them the rest of their lives.
